I want to update my game to the 1.7.2 update, but I am wondering, does it cost money to download a new launcher?

  • No. Once you have purchased Minecraft once, you own all future versions of the game on that particular platform. Updating will never cost anything.

Worth noting is that Mojang have only ever explicitly said that future versions will never cost anything for users who purchased the alpha version. However, no update so far has ever costed anything for anyone, and Mojang have earlier voiced the opinion that updates never should be paid.

  • Minecraft's launcher has never cost money – it's getting a Minecraft premium account that costs. (If you have ever paid for just the launcher, I'm afraid you were probably scammed.) A premium account is required to login with the new launcher.

The new launcher can be downloaded from This is the exact same place the old launcher was downloaded from.

  • Updates (so far) don't cost money. Don't give them any ideas, though.

The original account is what you pay for, I guess the updates are an added bonus.

  • I have been using a few of the badges given from the start of my career but it looks like you can only use them X amount of times before you have to refill them. ( Default was 5 ) Finding this out, sparked a few questions: How do you refill these badges? Do they cost money IRL or XP ? How many times can you refill a badge? Does it cost 1 badge usage per round or event you play in?

  • I can't get Minecraft 1.6.4. I downloaded the new launcher on, but it's still 1.6.2. When I click on "edit profile," there's no 1.6.4 displayed.

  • I've finished all the story missions, and most of the side-quests, but there's still several properties I can't afford yet. Some of these properties cost tens of millions of dollars, but I can't find a way to quickly earn that money. I'm aware there's always the option of playing the stock market, but that's a crap shoot after all of Lester's assassination missions are done. Are there any reliable ways to quickly earn the money needed to buy the more expensive properties? Do the options differ for each character?

  • I'm wondering if the Goliath's multi-lock weapons system is worth its money. It costs 300 minerals at the merc building. I think the update is the same as in the campaign, and allows the goliath to fire anti-air and anti-ground weapons simultaneously. So if you are attacking air and ground at the same time, it is like you have twice the firepower, right? Or does the update just make the Goliath switch between anti-air and anti-ground without any delay? Is there otherwise a delay between switching targets? Is it worth the money, compared to the Goliath upgrade in the middle building

  • Some games allow balance adjustments to be made without issuing a title update or patch. Monday Night Combat is one example of this (Source). This is especially desirable on Xbox 360, because the certification process for title updates can take months and cost developers a large sum of money. This thread on BSN lists the balance changes that are slated for Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. Will these balance changes take place behind the scenes (immediately), or will they only occur after a title update or patch is issued? It seems to me like the easiest way to know for sure would be for an Xbox
