Where are my saves?

  • Where are my saves? Ashley Nunn

I noticed while I was playing that the game tells me often that it has saved. I assumed that meant that if I quit, I could come back later, and my game would be there, at the last save point, and I didn't need to manually save.

However, I came back to the game today, and my save was nowhere to be found. I am not sure if the game just puts them in a strange place (when you load a game, you can tell it where to look in the directory), or if it somehow decided not to actually save my game, despite many messages during my play that told me it was.

Knowing where the saves are normally located might help me determine where the games are being saved, but I don't see anywhere in the directory that looks likely.

    Where are my saves?

  • I am playing on Classic difficulty, and where I used to have three Autosaves for a mission, I now only have one (i.e. the same file is rewritten each turn, so I can't go back a turn). Did this setting get changed after a game update, or might this be a bug? I did some googling, but didn't find anything. (I have read about an issue where once you reach 100 saves, your saves are listed out...). The reason I ask is because one autosave is not that useful in a mission; the game is saved at the beginning of my turn, right after one of my guys gets killed. With 2 or 3 autosaves, I can go back

  • I want to remove most of the old save games from The Witcher that I'm constantly generating while playing (quick saves, autosaves, and manual save points) as I know I won't restart playing from these, and they take quite a lot of space* (20+ MB/save). Removing them from the game is nice because I get to see the thumbnail plus location plus save date, but it's a chore with many of them as you have to select and delete them one by one. So my question is: can I safely remove them from Windows Explorer, or will it raise issues later with the game (if there is for instance some sort of index
