  • Fifa 2009 - Free Kick Techniques? Siyfion

I'm a fairly long-term fan of the Fifa series, having owned various Fifa titles over the years however if there is one thing that I just can't seem to get right, it's free-kicks on goal.

No matter what I seem do, they either go skyward, or are so lacking power that the goalkeeper has so much time to react that he easily saves it.

    Any tips would be great!

  • Aim for upper corners, hold LB to hit a hard shot and practice the length you hold B for in the practice arena (press a button on the directional pad to start a free kick).

  • Most of it is just practicing the timing of your button presses. If your timing is near-perfect the ball will go where you want it to.

If you are unsure of your ability to take the shot with proper timing, aiming a bit more inside the posts rather than at the extreme corners could help keep your shot on target, especially if you put curve on the ball.

Also, if you can't get the timing quite right for power, it's better to undershoot the mark rather than overshoot it. An underpowered shot should at least stay on-target, giving your attempt some hope of finding the net. An overpowered shot is practically guaranteed to miss.

  • I spent an hour one day practicing free kicks in the Practice Arena and even though I have scored a few free kicks in the past, I came to the conclusion it was basically impossible.

I now set-up some sort of pass for every free kick no matter how close to the goal and have had a lot more success - even if it is a lot less sexy.

  • What I do (and I am successful almost 40% of the times) is that I aim a little away from the post and I try to bring the ball back in through direction keys after hitting the ball. Through direction keys you can put curve on the ball after the ball is released.

About power, well, it depends on your distance from goal. If it is too far, then more power is needed. For more power, hold the kick button longer.

I have tried external applications like USB Overdrive (which works, but it flips the thumbsticks for me), ControllerMate (which doesn't let me control the mouse without registering), and GamePad Companion (which also requires registration). • My friend bought Fifa 13 on Xbox and everybody's getting excited for tournaments etc. I only have a PC however, so I'm wondering, if I get Fifa 13 on PC, will I be able to accurately practice... this to be a no, but I just can't find any info on it. For bonus points, would anybody recommend getting FIFA 12 PC for learning FIFA 13 Xbox? I'm not expecting to be a masterclass, my main goal is to learn the control schemes, but obviously the closest it can be to the Fifa 13 Xbox the better. THanks!

  • I'm organizing a gaming event, which will have FIFA 2010 and Quake 3. We want the audience to be able to see the action in true 3D, so we're going to make use of anaglyph glasses. For this, we'll be using ioquake3 and iZ3D. My questions here are: iZ3D doesn't seem to support Quake 3, though it says it does... or does it? Can you spectate on a Quake 3 match using ioquake3? What is the best way for adding anaglyph support to Quake3? Is anaglyph support even possible in Quake4? What is the best way to achieve what I want to do? Is "spectator mode" possible in any way in FIFA 2010? It's okay

  • For Starcraft you have http://blip.tv/day9tv or http://www.teamliquid.net/ and for Street Fighter you have http://crosscounter.tv/ or http://shoryuken.com/ . Is there a good site for FIFA 12 that discusses strategies, tutorials, replays etc.? I searched for basic terms like fifa, tutorial, replays, strategies etc. but the sites I found were either very basic, had no community or were just old. So the things I look for are: strategies (offensive/defensive) tutorials (corner, free-kick etc.) replays / videos of good players commentaries beyond just stating the obvious solid community
