Can spiders swim against current?

    In Minecraft 1.4_01 if I have a vertical wall standing on dirt with a water source block placed where the wall and ground meet (see below) can spiders (or any mob for that matter) even reach the wall?

    C = Cobblestone
    D = Dirt
    W = Water Source


    For the sake of simplicity I've intentionally not listed flowing water.

  • At the moment, mobs cannot move fast enough to fight a current. However, this is rumored to change in a later patch.

So Goddess Walls seem pretty neat - they give you free stuff if you draw on them! ...except, the game does a less than adequate job of telling you what shapes to draw.   • idea was to have a huge cobblestone box, in which mobs would spawn, fall into a central hole (with the help of water, and then be killed at the bottom. However, I can't seem to get rid of this strange light in the spawner. There are no torches around; I have checked thoroughly. In fact, the light seems to be coming from the water source blocks. The odd thing is, whenever I force one of the water blocks to update, the light goes away, but when I close up the box and open it again, the water starts glowing again. In any case, nothing spawns.

Recently I've unlocked the Plague of Toads skill which does considerably more damage (130% per toad rather than 16% per spider) However the toads don't go where I click, they are simply released and seem to meander about in the general direction of the click. I can easily fill and area of my choice with a dozen or more spiders, I cannot easily do the same with my toads. Do the toads have a large AOE with their explosion? What justifies their usefullness if I can't really specify their target? Many Spiders, Small Area. Few Toads, Large Area. Both Tests were done in a similar fasion
