The most notable example I can think of right now are Ghosts 'n goblins and Ghouls 'n ghosts.
Converting a game from a platform to another required a license to do so, of course, so I don't think they couldn't license the same music in the same way they licensed the game porting.
I also don't think that when porting to a more restricted platform like from Arcades to Commodore 64, there were technical limitations to what music could be performed. At least the music quality wouldn't be the same, but why change it completely?
In a interview with Mark Cooksey (the one that did Ghosts and Goblins music) :
A lot of the games were arcade conversions or licensed titles and hence the music was copied from the original source, when an original product was produced the programmer would often want some of their favorite music in the game [...]
Also, note than it may not be the "technical limitations to what music could be performed", it may be some other technical limitations, like memory. In the case of Ghosts 'n goblins Elite - which had given the job for the conversion to Chris Butler - insisted on the precondition, that the game should be completely in the memory without having to reload from a media.
So I guess it was a decision that was taken over a counter-top, the only way to be sure could be to track-down and ask someone like Mark Cooksey or Chris Butler.
My first introduction to RPG gaming was Wasteland on my old Commodore 64. Many of the items that are key to the story line (i.e. servo motors) only appear in a limited number during the game. However, I've always wondered if perhaps all items could be limited to a specific number per game. Here's why I ask... Recently my ghost data has been full, and I need to delete some ghosts before I can watch some of the world record runs. On that list, it seems that I had 32 ghosts, so 32 means I cannot have 1 rival ghost + 1 world record ghost for each race track (there are 32 tracks, so it would require 64 ghost slots). Is there a way to have more than 32? The data should be small, is there a way to store it on a 2GB SD card, for example? Update: I found that I can just create another player and then probably have yet another 32 ghost slots...oh well, I just need to play using that license so
A long time ago I played War In Middle Earth on the Commodore 64. As you played through you could somewhat recreate the events of the books. I took Frodo across the Misty Mountains, down through Mirkwood Forest, down towards Morder. Very quickly my heroes would stop moving. Gandalf stopped moving half way through the mountains (perhaps because of the Balrog). After literally playing the same game over the course of a few years, I finally got Frodo within 3 spaces of Mount Doom. After that he simply refused to move anymore. In the Commodore 64 manual for War In Middle Earth, the manual said: Sauron, like the Nazgul, is to be avoided altogether. preview videos I've seen, much of the game is basically the same. Same levels, same layout, a bit of shiny polish and remixing of music, maybe a few revamped bosses but not much else. So what has been added to the new Remastered version of Ducktales? Note that I am not asking for feature changes, because obviously they've polished the game quite a lot. For the old Commodore 64 game Mars Saga, I've found maps of the caves but no maps of the surface or the cities. Anyone know if they exist somewhere? Additionally, are there any other interesting things on the planet surface besides just the entrances to the cities and caves? I recall mainly just using the surface as a place to level up by fighting nasty creatures. Are there any other interesting things up there, like some Easter eggs perhaps?
The in-game audio is not working at all, no music in the menus, no effects or nothing while playing (Microsoft Live sound does work, though). This is the environment: Steam client Windows 8 64 bits ASUS P7P55D integrated sound card for audio The sound card is connected to a receiver through SPDIF. Everything else works without a problem, both in 5.1 (movies) and stereo (music and games). I do not use AC3 or any encoder for 5.1 gaming. All of the other games I have do not have any sound issue. I have also tried to connect headphones to the corresponding jack in the sound card
Since it's not possible to play multi with a player on another platform, is it possible to convert a savegame from one platform (PC, XBox, PS3) to another platform? By doing so, this might allow to switch from one platform to another to enable playing with a friend (supposing you have two retail copy on the same platform).
When I play minecraft in singular player my music goes crazy: for instance 1 song would start playing, but after a while another song starts at the SAME TIME! It very annoying. when I turn my music to off in the music & sound area it doesn't turn off! So I end up having to turn off my master volume. I cant stand the silence. plz help me
