Is there a canonical explanation for the ending of Mass Effect 3?

  • Is there a canonical explanation for the ending of Mass Effect 3? Tharius

The question can't really be phrased without spoilers but I think most people are getting this far by now.

At the end of every ending I've seen thus far we see a large energy surge going through the Mass Relays that seems to result in them exploding (hence the shockwave that crashes the Normandy). This seems to imply that most of the galaxy is now cut off from one another and interstellar travel is going to grind to a halt until the relays are rebuilt. Do the systems involved end up destroyed (see DLC content regarding the Bahak system's relay being destroyed)?

Is there a canonical source (comic, dlc, book, game) that would explain if this interpretation is correct?

  • Possible Duplicate: Is there a new game plus for Mass Effect 3? Sorry if this is a duplicate. I checked but I didn't see this answered. I'm planning to wait for the Mass Effect 3 extended cut DLC later this summer but would like some confirmation on a few things: Can I play through Mass Effect 3 again with my same character? If so, what exactly can I keep (as far as stats) on the second play-through? Thanks.

  • The most recent Mass Effect saves I got are from within the Citadel (attacked @ end game). I'm losing 2 hours of gameplay if I load the last save where I was in control of the Normandy. You lose the Normandy once you land on Ilos. So the question is... how the hell can I play the DLC and have it reflect in Mass Effect 2 without re-playing all the game ending? If this is not possible, I think I will use the Mass Effect savegames website, although I would feel like I'm cheating. However, maybe this is the only way now that I finished the game already without playing the DLC?

Do I need to have purchased and/or played through any DLC for Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2 in order to have access to certain squad mates in Mass Effect 3? • In the course of the Leviathan DLC you learn some pretty important new facts about the reapers, namely that they, or at least the Catalyst, were created by the Leviathan species, and subsequently rebelled and nearly destroyed their creators. Does this knowledge affect the game ending at all? Are there more conversation options with the Catalyst, or does he/it offer up any additional information? I would test this myself as I've just completed the DLC, but there are several hours of gameplay between this point and the end of the game.

  • So I've gone through my first ending with ~3800 EMS. With my handy save point for just before the assault on Earth, I plan to up my readiness and go at it again. The one question I have is do all "good" (EMS > 2800) or every ending involve the Mass Relays blowing up?

  • I have never played Mass Effect: Pinnacle Station, but it no longer appears to be available on Steam. This DLC now only appears to be available on Origin, from what I can see. I own Mass Effect on Steam, but the Steam CD key for the first Mass Effect game is not valid within Origin (the CD key for Mass Effect 2 is, but that's not going to help in this particular situation). Am I able to purchase Mass Effect: Pinnacle Station on Origin and then use it with my copy of Mass Effect from Steam, or am I going to need to repurchase Mass Effect on Origin in order to use the Mass Effect: Pinnacle

  • to save Jack so need to go back and do that, but don't want to to the whole game again, I just want to get the achievement. However, when the new DLC comes out with the extra bits on the end, I also don't want to have to redo the whole game just to see the extra ending. Too scared to try it in case I stuff everything up UPDATE: so I bit the bullet and started a new game with my original shep and all is fine. Still have the original, unchanged. I just now have 2 saves with the same name, but the date is different so that's how I can tell them apart. You can also change your appearance

  • I just finished New Vegas, siding with the NCR. This was my fourth run-through. This time around, I blew up Vault 19. (It seems that being "Very Good" karmically involved a lot of blowing up established environments -- Vault 19, the Brotherhood, I could go on ... ) So I get to the end-game, and I'm told that the Vault 19 Powder Gangers continued to torment the wasteland for years, preying on citizens of the NCR. What? I blew them up. Like, exploded the Vault. Kablooey! Is this a glitch, or does the game just not have a separate ending slide for, "the Courier destroyed all the evil ex-cons
