I'm currently trying to determine how exactly the DPS calculation works. The only thing I'm not quite sure about is Magic Weapon, which gives me a huge dps boost. My unbuffed DPS is about 17k, using Magic Weapon increases my DPS to over 22k.

Has anyone already figured out what exactly magic weapon does?

• I have. It's pretty simple, really - it's double dipping. You get its effect twice.

First, it applies a modifier to your weapon damage - possibly unique, I haven't seen any other sources of a modifier like this - which is used in its own place in the calculation formula.

Second, it adds that same modifier to your skill damage bonus. This is why you'll notice your skill damage go up by 10% (15% with force weapon) in your details page of your inventory. So what ends up happening is magic weapon adds 1.1*1.1 = 1.21 = 21% bonus damage, instead of the listed 10%. (32.25% with force weapon rune)

The weapon damage modifier stacks multiplicatively with other sources of skill damage bonus, such as glass cannon and sparkflint - which all stack additively with each other. Glass cannon, sparkflint and force weapon combined would give you 15% + 12% + 15% = 42% skill damage modifier, and then there'd be an additional 15% weapon damage modifier, which would net you 1.42 * 1.15 = 1.633 = 63.3% damage increase.

• Possible Duplicate: Is Magic Weapon associated with a weapon or with the hero? The Wizard’s Magic Weapon skill increases the damage of the Wizard’s weapon. Does this also increase the damage of all other skills, as they rely on the weapon’s damage, or does it only affect regular attacks? In addition, Magic Weapon’s runes add on-hit effects. When do these apply? For instance, the Force Weapon rune adds a chance for a knockback effect. Does that mean a Wizard has a chance to cause knockback when casting Disintegrate, when under that enchantment?

• Possible Duplicate: What does the Damage stat on the character sheet actually mean? How is DPS Calculated? How is the weapon damage on this weapon calculated? Is the + weapon damage% included in the displayed damage? Why does my damage gets reduced when I equip a 969.4 DPS weapon instead of a 698.0 DPS weapon? I'm a wizard. • For weapons that have +x minimum damage and/or +x maximum damage such as the Longshot, is the increase in damage already factored into the DPS that's displayed for the weapon? As an example: Weapon 1 is has +1 minimum damage and +2 maximum damage enchantments, and is listed as having 35 DPS in the tooltip. Weapon 2 has no enchantments and also shows 35 DPS in the tooltip. Does weapon 1 do more damage than weapon 2 because the enchantments aren't factored into the DPS calculation, or are they equal in DPS?

• Shield Bash (Shattered Shield) states that it hits "for 325% weapon damage plus 300% of your shield's Block Chance as damage." I'm not exactly clear on what this means. If I have a block chance of 20%, does that mean my damage calculation goes as follows: 325% weapon damage + (300% * Block Chance) = 325% weapon damage + 0.6 That feels like a comically small improvement (less than 1 damage) as to seem completely useless.

• I'm looking for example showing the math behind the calculation of the weapon strength. I'm aware of other questions, but can someone show the actual math in the following weapons? • Possible Duplicate: How is listed DPS calculated when dual-wielding weapons? Below is a screenshot of what I'm referring to. How does a Quiver with those stats increase my total damage when it replaces a one handed crossbow (in my offhand) that has 292.6 damage? I know the damage calculation in D3 is somewhat complicated, but this doesn't make sense to me at all.

• Possible Duplicate: How can I track “Magic Weapon”s cooldown? I've noticed playing on my wizard that most of my skills show a buff with an indicator of how much time is left, just above the hotbar 1-4 spots, but whenver I cast magic weapon, nothing shows up. I see the dps change in my stats window, but never know when it's dropped during combat. Is there some way to track how long the spell has left, or do I just need to keep recasting it before I run into combat to make sure its up? Thanks!

• Quoting the skill description: All damage dealt to chilled and frozen targets is increased by 20%. Does "All Damage" mean it applies to damage dealt by other players?
