When a research agreement has finished and you receive your free technology, does your research partner receive the same technology? I would guess that both parties receive one of their respective "next" technologies, which may or may not be the same, right?
Update: This question has been made obsolete by the June 2011 patch. Research agreements now give a tech boost instead of a free tech. Tech boosts start at 50% of the median value of all techs you can research. Can be boosted to 100% if you both start Rationalism and build the Porcelain Tower.
Correct, they are not necessarily the same. You will receive a random technology from those that are available to you, and they will receive a random one for them. This does imply that if you are making use of research agreements, you should try not to "skip" techs that are cheap, since you want the research agreement to give you something as "expensive" as possible.
Playing as Terran, do you need to keep your barracks attached to a tech lab in order for research to complete? For example: You have a Barracks connected to a tech lab. You begin Stimpack Research. Can you fly away your barracks and still have the technology researching? If you can't and you fly it away do you receive your money back?
In Civilization 5 when you make a research agreement with an AI then go to war with that player, you get the free tech instantly. Are there any other abuses like this?
If my capital province has military technology III, my other province has level II and my vassal has first level and I summon every soldier from these provinces, will each unit have different bonuses, depending on their provinces' tech, or will they all have level III bonuses, because of my capital tech?
is this. Here is a cite from the guide that made me question this myself. However and btw when I review my games always wondered about it :) When [...] your research nearing future tech 1 (11 in each category) This implies to me that Calladice (the writer) has reasearched everything to 10. The question or tldr; is: I looked at for example: Research - Object databse - Biotechnology - (10) Siliko Biotechnology You can see there that Biotechnology 10 doesn't enable new structures or ships. So generally and by itself what is the point of researching something to 10 if it's not for some ship
Was playing team based game with my brother against the AI and noticed that the number of turns to research something dropped when we both selected to research the same technology. How does this work? Does it combine all players in the team researching the same technology (ie. its addictive)? or there diminishing returns? and if so what is the formula.

I've got a class 17 heavy gravity world in the system next to my home system that I would quite like to colonise before the AI does. However, it will take me 20 weeks to research heavy gravity colonization, and another 38 to research the advanced version of the tech. I know that if I colonise with only the first stage, then the planet will only got 50% of it's land space available, resulting in effectively a class 8 or 9 planet. However, if I later research the advanced version of the technology, do I get that lost space back? Or does the planet get permanently reduced?
I have done all missions of major scientific importance on Victoria Crater and unlocked both Gale and Kaiser Crater. But I still lack the instruments to do any missions in there, except one where the medium Lander was enough. I still have not unlocked Tech Level 5, which would give me the Large Lander and more instruments. What are the prerequisites for the tech levels?
