How can I get mods from the Steam workshop?

  • How can I get mods from the Steam workshop? Joe

    So I got Civilization V the other day and I am wondering how steam workshop works? How do I get mods for Civ V and what happens if it doesnt work?

  • In your Steam library, select Civilization V and you will see a button labelled "Browse the Workshop";

    browse the workshop

    Clicking this button will take you to the Steam Workshop, which looks and feels the same as the Steam store in that you can browse through items and download the ones that you want;

    the workshop

    Once you have found something in the workshop that you wish to download, click on the 'Subscribe' button (big green button similar to the 'Add to Cart' button). This will add the content to your subscriptions list. Some games may require you to restart the game to download subscribed content.

  • I have bought games outside of Steam, for example Fable 3, but I want to install some mods for it from the Steam Workshop. I would prefer to use Steam Workshop to install mods, as I don't trust my abilities to install them manually. Plus it's a lot easier to manage from the Steam Workshop. What I tried so far: I have installed and logged into Steam, Added Fable as a 'Non-Steam-game' Opened up...-steam-game' shortcut. How do I tell Steam that I own a copy of Fable 3? • I've installed some gamemodes from the workshop but I have no idea how to get this in my server. For example I get the gamemode Hide and Seek which gets put in the directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons So I copy the add on and paste it in my server hosting map which is in: C:\Users\Loko\Desktop\steamcmd\gmodserver\garrysmod\addons Now I used... terrortown or gamemode prop_hunt Now I have no idea how to change it to hide and seek or murder or anything else from the workshop.

  • Does anyone know how the Steam workshop CDN works? I use the Miami Steam server because I'm in Florida, and, with games I get a good 3.5MB/s download speed, however, with the Steam workshop items I get barely 700KB/s. Does anyone know the reasoning for this? Is it because they don't distribute content globally for user based items? Or, is it because they're smaller objects (~100MB vs ~8GB)? Or 'because Valve'? (I did google first, all I see is a lot of people asking the same thing with no answers.)

How do I go about fixing this issue?

  • I'm asking because I got these confusing information: This map's description states that the Steam Workshop does not allow including .NAV files and recommends I download a copy from another website, instead. While, this other Steam Workshop map's description states that it includes a "unique NAV file". In the latter map, I checked if there's a .NAV file included with the map in its folder in \csgo\maps\workshop\, but there isn't any. However, when I first played that map, the game didn't auto-compute and generate a .NAV bot navigation file before allowing playing with bots, but the bots

  • I'm trying to use some add-ons for Civ V from the workshop. I subscribed to some as described in this answer. When I start the game, nothing. I restarted Steam and then the game, nothing. I bet I'm suppose to use the "MODS" section, but the only one that appears is one I downloaded long ago, before workshop! Is there some special manipulation that can make it work? I'm on Windows 7.
