In both of the Trine games now, I've found that I tend to favor the Wizard when solving puzzles. More than a few times I've come across a puzzle that I could only figure out through creative use of crates and planks.
Also occasionally in the later levels, I've found areas of rock that I can break by throwing the Knight's hammer.
However, conjuring more crates and planks or throwing the Knight's hammer requires that I sink upgrade points into the relevant trees. How many upgrades I have and where I use them are up to me. This means that it's possible to get to the end of the game and never upgrade the heroes at all, if I choose.
Are there any upgrades in the game that are essential to finish the quest? If so, what are they and when would I need them by?
Having just attempted a no skill points run, I believe you need Hammer Throw by stage 11, but can finish the game without further upgrades. If you want to collect all the exp as well, Fire Arrows are necessary by stage 10. I didn't skill Fire Arrows until I'd beaten Stage 12, so they're definitely not needed to win the game.
For the first instance of why each of those upgrades are necessary:
Fire Arrows: On stage 10, there is a part fairly early in the level where there is a wooden box containing an Experience Bottle atop a switch which keeps a stone door shut, locking away access to a Large Experience. While it's actually possible to conjure a wizard box and get things positioned just right to get the Large Experience, the wooden box must be broken in order to be able to slide its bottle out to yourself through the narrow gap. The gap seems too narrow to get a Thrown Hammer through, but a Fire Arrow can break it.
Hammer Throw: On stage 11, there is a section with a lever that starts out doing nothing, because air needs to be connected in the room above it. Blocking entrance to the room with the air is a stone wall, too high to be reached with your basic abilities. Also, directly to the left of the lever is an invisible wall which prevents you from bringing objects from earlier in the level. You don't actually have to reconnect the air, but behind the rock wall is the barrel that you need for the nearby water and, due to the invisible anti-object wall, one from earlier in the level cannot substitute for it.

Possible Duplicate: How do I modify my weapons? I have found several weapon upgrades and a weapon upgrade bench. I presume that I add the upgrades to weapons I already have in my possession, or how does it work? Are these upgrades removable so that I can use them on a different weapon later?
I just unlocked the Ezio character in the game through UPLAY and then changed the character. Now when I continued my game all my unlocked upgrades have been reset to zero but the upgrades still show up activated in the upgrade menu but as if their effects were gone. What can I do to get them back as all those unlocked upgrades cannot be unlocked again and I cannot get their effects. What can I do to bring them back?
with Gladiators, Para Axes and +5 daggers, then found I could buy Enchanters and Knight's Swords. Is there a guide on when to buy new weapons, and when to build up money? I'm always worried that if I don't buy new weapons now I won't get a chance to later. Should I just keep using my current gear until I find weapons I don't need to upgrade so much? ...I'm having some trouble with planning out what weapons to upgrade in The Last Story for Wii. What typically happens is I spend a bunch of money upgrading an item to +5, use it for one dungeon
According to the wiki, normal crates cost level x 400 coins. Depending on your level this could easily be in the thousands to ten thousands range. On the other hand, you can get crates as cargo, occupying a space of 1. Compared to an equivalent piece of cargo, the opportunity cost is in the 10-100 coin range. That's a bargain compared to buying crates. So perhaps when you have a glut of coins it makes sense, but in my experience I've always found ways to spend coins - new railroads, tracks, or special crates - so when does it ever make sense to purchase regular crates?
I've been playing this game on my tablet the past few days, gathered a bunch of coins and in-game money. Also unlocking different vehicles and upgrading them too. Does it matter if I buy a new vehicle or upgrade my existing? I haven't noticed any difference in the way different vehicles perform, or if they have received upgrades.
Possible Duplicate: What is this monster (screenshot included)? I've found some sort of weird claw thing underground that looks like this When I hit it with a hammer it does 48 damage to me, nothing else seems to have any effect. What is it and does it have any use?
I've just started playing Legend of Fae and I'm trying to figure out which path I want to take in regards to the Spell Lantern Upgrades. However, I have no idea how many parts total I'll end up getting in the game. I don't want to end up with a less effective build because I've split my upgrades across 2 or more paths or the like. There does seem to be a Reset ability, but it also says it will cost one of my total spare parts in order to use. I can hover over each locked item and it will tell me the cost, but I'm unsure if spare parts are something that I can end up grinding
In this heist (shipped with the Wolfpack DLC), you can use planks to barricade the windows and the vents. Since the cops (especially the snipers, pretty dangereous in this heist) can blow the barricades on windows in only a few shots, leaving you exposed, does anyone know if there's something useful to make of these planks? Also, how long will the barricaded vents hold ? Is it more interesting to condamn all the vents rather than the "key" windows (for instance, those in the server room, or the ones covering your way out on the roof, at the end of the heist) ?
As a Marauder, I have picked up a few skills through quests that are weapon dependent. Unfortunately, some of them require mutually exclusive weapons (e.g. Glacial Hammer requires blunt weapons and Cleave requires edged weapons). This means that every time I upgrade to a new weapon, if the weapon type changes, I may wind up with skills that I can't use. At this point, I have more skills than... using a mace), while still leaving them socketed so they'll continue to level up. I'd also like to be able to reassign the keys to put them on more convenient hotkeys, yet I have a hard time doing
