I've installed Steam do my D:\ drive, and reinstalled windows without backing up most of my files on C:\. I then installed Steam over the old directory. I can run all of the games I had installed, but there are some ties to the OS missing. Can I repair my game installs somehow so that they get back what they're supposed to have on C:\? I don't mean savegames and settings files.
This is a general questions, but what prompted it is a problem with a mod installer. In this specific case, I want to install the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky Complete mod using the installer, but it can't locate my STALKER CS installation. I'm guessing it just checks the registry. I've got version 1.5.10 of the game, and the download page says it should support that.
After installing steam on the C drive, maybe you should copy paste all files from the D directory to the C directory.
When you install a game, Steam set up some registry keys to remember that it already did the first time installation. This step is done when you launch a game for the first time ( when is usually install DirectX and other redistributable needed).
When you reinstall Windows, both the redistributable and the registry is wiped, but since your steam is on a second drive, Steam doesn't need to re-download the games. But when you try to start the game for the first time, it will do the first time installation again, normally setting up anything needed for the game to run.
I'm having trouble with Bit.Trip Runner on my laptop, installed using Steam. I installed the game (through steam) version 1.06b on windows 7 x64. i downloaded the mod and extracted contents to mod folder. I open the game and check game of thrones and it crashes. I found on the internet that mac users were having similar problems and tried there solution of changes the .mod file from path = /mod/A Game of Thrones" to path = "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/crusader kings ii/mod/A Game of Thrones" the game now loads but without the mod. Also the game loads fine if I dont select the mod.
I'm completing the shaman's quest where I have to kill and get a stalker's bone, but I already cleared the cauldron area, where can I find another stalker?
I recently bought STALKER Call of Pripyat, but I can't play long enough before I get really dizzy when you run. Is there a mod or a fix where I can run without my screen leaning (or shaking left and right) as I get really dizzy. It's a good game (kind of like fallout 3) but this run thing is making me have second thoughts about my purchase.
I've gotten all the achievements of the game, except this one. It says 'Clear 20 stone slabs using long chains', and I'm pretty sure I've cleared as much by now. Do I have to clear them with ONE chain? Or in one level? I figured it couldn't be that difficult as some 43% of all players on Steam have this achievement, but somehow it won't work for me. Any ideas on what I am missing, or how I can complete the achievement?
before stating the game. However I've noticed that it seems to occasionally cause sync conflicts when starting the game. If I play Origin games via Steam, is it not uploading my Cloud Save files to Origin or what? I only have one PC, so conflicts aren't a huge problem, but do want my files backed up in the cloud. Origin is of course installed, so if necessary I can just launch BF3 through that. ...I have Origin and Battlefield 3 and prefer to launch BF3 via Steam. The game runs fine, but when I launch Origin occasionally gives a warning that Cloud Saves can only be used when launching via
I purchased the humble indie bundle 2, downloaded braid, and installed it. Since the bundle is now available on Steam, I am now downloading the Steam version for achievements etc. Will the steam version use the same save as the non-Steam version? Related: If I have the non-Steam version of a game and the Steam version, is it possible to make Steam only redownload changed files? Not a huge issue for the Humble Indie games, being quite small in size, but it would be handy for something like UT3 if I activated my key on Steam.
problem. How can I get past "Updating setup files..." when reinstalling Diablo 3, and what is error BLZPTS0007? ...After a reasonable hiatus from Blizzard games, I have decided to reinstall Diablo 3. I used to have it installed and working on this machine and removed my previous install using Add/Remove Programs. However, now when I try to reinstall the game, the Diablo 3 Setup starts 'Updating setup files...' and then hangs; I have had a quick google for ideas on how to fix it which seems to bring up
. Everytime I tried a mod here or here or here; the game crashes with a generic message such as check your hardware requirements. Removing the mod make the game work correctly.
