Why does Shenhua speak Japanese?

    Shenhua (aka Shen Hua aka Sha Hua aka Shen Fa) "grew up in the wilderness of China, surrounded by nature" (Wikipedia). She "has lived in Guilin her whole life" (Neoseeker).

    In Shenmue II, Ryo meets her and she talks to him in accent-free Japanese (according to a friend of mine who speaks Japanese). In Shenmue I she also sings in Japanese.

    Why is that?

    I'm not sure, but I think her original name is Chinese. She grew up in China. She lives in China. Why does she speak perfect Japanese? Is it explained in the game? Or are there any hints?

    Maybe her adoptive father taught her Japanese? Is anything known about him (yet)? Is it plausible that he knows Japanese?

  • In the process of working around a problem in my Linux + WINE + Supreme Commander + SC patch 3280 setup, I had to disable bloom rendering in the graphics options. The retail version (3189), however, does not seem to have the same problem, even at the maximum graphics quality settings. Does the retail version (3189) of Supreme Commander support bloom rendering? Because if bloom rendering was added in one of the later patches, it might explain the regression.

  • I was on my second Character, and had him at OP8 very early into the first play through. I then completed True Vault Hunter Mode on OP8, I then went to play Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode on OP8 and I was back at LVL72 and could no longer play with my OP8 weapons. So does anyone know why this is happening? Is it a bug? Or is there something I should not have done? What is OP (in case you are confused)? OP8 is a short term for 'Over Powered LVL8' it is part of the new DLC, in which you receive LVL80 gear for your LVL72 character. More information HERE.

  • After completing a series of single player mini-games in Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, you are given more cars to choose to drive. Do the various cars perform differently, or do they all behave the same way and only have visual (aesthetic) differences? I don't see anything in the interface to suggest that they are unique, but why would it progressively open up more cars as you complete the mini-games, if they don't matter to the game play?
