Transfering already installed steam games onto another drive

Ok so I've seen the other questions about installing games onto another drive(SSD) and I've already done that properly for any new game that I have been getting.

However I want to know if there is a proper way to transfer games from my old drive over to the new drive without having to uninstall and then re-download them.

I already tried copying the folders over but all that does is make steam not know where the games are anymore and I'm not sure how to change the location that it looks for a particular game once it is already installed on my C drive.

    Thank you!

  • I've been attempting to activate pre-installed games on Desura, which is possible in the application - there is a problem, though. Apparently it doesn't register the games you have installed on your other Harddrives. For example; Games on my D: drive aren't being detected, only games installed on my C: drive are detected by Desura. The problem with this, is that if I wanted to download mods for my pre-installed Amnesia, I can't as Desura doesn't register that I already own and have already paid for Amnesia. Anyone know of this issue?

These are games that I've bought and already activated on Steam. So what exactly happens if I re-register them on Origin? Do they get 'copied' across, so I can play them from either service? Do they get 'moved' across, so they are no longer accessible from Steam? If this is the case, are save games compatible? (I'm guessing they are...) What about Steam achievements? I hope

  • . I've heard some icky backup suggestions like manually copying files. However, since you can move games/their saves over 100% to an external source (which I should then be able to back up), it seems like if all my game/save content is on an external device I should be able to back up that device and keep all my content, right? So if all my content is on an external drive can I really back it up..., if something happens to my Wii U, will I be able to use my external drive's content in any way on a new Wii U system?

  • My old Xbox RRoD'd on me so I've gone out Xbox hunting. I've got a new Slimline 250gb Xbox, I'm trying to get the data off my old drive on to it. Help much appreciated.
